Heavy rains trigger floods; rescue ops on

Jaipur/Kota/Bhilwara: Heavy to moderate rainfall since Friday evening caused flooding in Bundi, Kota, Baran, and Sawai Madhopur districts of Rajasthan Saturday, prompting authorities to initiate rescue and relief operations. The worst-affected district, Bundi, reported two rain-related fatalities Saturday. Nainwa in Bundi received rainfall of 500mm, the highest in the state.Following Nainwa, Digod (Kota) recorded 270mm of precipitation, Anta (Baran) and Baran each received 240mm, Kishanganj (Baran) 230mm, Uniara (Tonk) and Aligarh (Tonk) 220mm each, Niwai (Tonk) 210mm, Mangrol (Baran) 20mm, Nagarfort (Tonk) 190mm, Indergarh (Bundi) 180mm, Tonk 170mm, Hinduli (Bundi) 160mm, Bundi 150mm, Sapotara (Karauli) 140mm, Bhungra (Banswara) 120mm, Deoli (Tonk) 110mm, Samrathpura (Dholpur) and Nokha (Bikaner) 100mm each, and Sujangarh (Churu) 80mm.In Jaipur, residents experienced heavy to moderate rainfall throughout the day, leading to water logging in several low-lying areas including Shastri Nagar, Bhatta Basti, and Jawahar Nagar. Rainfall in Jaipur varied from 70mm to 40mm. A 200-foot-long wall at Amber Fort collapsed during the rainfall, and the elephant ride for tourists was also cancelled. In Bundi, a 50-year-old woman, Kailshibai from Raini village under Dablana police station area, was swept away by the strong current of an overflowing brook and died Saturday. Another 65-year-old woman, Manbharbai, died after a wall of a tin shed collapsed over her in an agricultural field in Khedimafi village under Indergarh police station in Bundi district late Friday night.Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and cabinet ministers Kirori Lal Meena and Jawahar Singh Bedham, visited flood-affected areas in Kota, Bundi and Sawai Madhopur, respectively. Flood conditions in Digod tehsil, including Nimodaharji village, improved and were under control Saturday. "One column of the army was deployed with NDRF and SDRF for rescue operations in affected areas in Kota," Peeyush Samariya, Kota district collector, told TOI. He added that more than 200 people from Nimodaharji and nearby villages in Digod tehsil have been shifted to relief camps since Friday evening. Flood conditions, meanwhile, worsened in Nainwa, Kapren, Keshoraipatan, and Raithal tehsils in Bundi district, necessitating the deployment of an army column to Nainwa and other affected areas of Bundi to rescue stranded villagers. "Amid flood conditions, one column of the army was called in Nainwa block Friday night, and one column each of the army has been called in Keshoraipatan and Nainwa areas Saturday," said Akshay Godara, district collector Bundi. Teams from NDRF, SDRF, and the army jointly rescued around 400-500 people stranded in inundated villages in Nainwa, Keshoraipatan, Kapren, and Raithal areas, who have been shifted to relief camps. Tonk district collector Kalpana Agarwal and SP Rajesh Kumar visited the flooded areas.
