Heavy rainfall continues across Rajasthan, more likely
A day after witnessing the highest rainfall in the past 12 years, Jaipur received mild to moderate showers on Friday, recording 82.3 mm rainfall. Many roads at Niwaru Road, Mahindra SEZ, 200-Feet Bypass, Sikar Road, Station Road and other areas got damaged due to the heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday. Civil defence teams pumped out water with the help of pumps in some areas. Cloudy conditions prevailed in and around Jaipur throughout Friday. With the weather being pleasant, many people drove to Nahagarh fort, Hathini Ka Kund area and Jal Mahal for recreation.
Normal life was hit in Bikaner district due to the heavy rainfall. Railway tracks at Kolayat railway station were submerged.
Catchment areas of 349 small and big dams in the state received plenty of water due to the ongoing rainfall. With some dams, including Kota Barrage in Kota and Kalisindh in Jhalawar district, overflowing, the administration opened their gates. No rainfall was witnessed around Bisalpur dam on Friday. Its water level is at 310.15 metres.
Punjab, Haryana witness intense rainfall
Heavy rainfall in Punjab and Haryana offered relief from humid weather, with temperatures dropping two to four degrees below normal. Key affected areas included Moga, Tarn Taran, Bathinda, Faridkot, and Ambala, leading to waterlogging in parts of Punjab. The highest rainfall was recorded in Pathankot and Ambala, with Chandigarh also experiencing notable rainfall.
Delhi schools closed on Thursday due to heavy rainfall; IMD warns of continued heavy rains till August 5
Delhi education minister Atishi announced that all schools in Delhi, both government and private, would remain closed on Thursday due to heavy rainfall causing significant waterlogging and disruptions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported heavy rains and advised residents to avoid travel. Several airlines issued flight advisories, and officials were instructed to address waterlogged areas.
'Very heavy rainfall' wreaks havoc in Uttarakhand, 16 killed
Sixteen people lost their lives, and six sustained serious injuries due to flash-floods and landslides following heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand. The Kedarnath valley was cut off, leaving nearly 450 stranded, prompting a halt to the Char Dham yatra. Rescue operations, including an airlift of over 1,500 people, were underway.
