JAIPUR: Heat wave conditions aggravated in the state on Monday with most places recording maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. Barmer and Kota were the hottest with maximum temperature of 42.9°C, the Met office said, adding that heat wave conditions will aggravate in the next couple of days.
The Met office attributed the revival of heat wave conditions to active northerly winds and the disappearance of factors like upper air cyclonic circulation and western disturbances. It warned that the heat wave conditions will further worsen in the state over the next few days.
Jaipur recorded a minimum temperature of 27.8°C and a maximum of 41.6°C on Monday. For the first time this season, the city’s maximum temperature went beyond 40°C. In the afternoon, roads wore an empty look as people were confined to their offices and homes. Outlets and cafes selling cold beverages saw a good number of customers during the day.
Barmer and Kota were followed by Jaisalmer, Phalodi, Sriganganagar, Jaisalmer, and Jalore, where a maximum temperature of 42.8°C was recorded. Next were Bharatpur at 42.5°C, Dholpur 42.3°C, Vanasthali and Jodhpur 42.2°C each, Pilani and Bikaner 42.1°C each, Fatehpur and Karauli 42°C each, Ajmer 41.2°C, Bhilwara 40.5°C, and Sikar with 39.5°C.
The Met office in its forecast said till May 9, most places in the state will continue to see maximum temperatures of or above 40°C. It said some places are likely to witness cloudy conditions.
