Hearing on poaching cases against Salman deferred

Jodhpur: Hearing on the two appeals pertaining to the two cases of poaching against Salman Khan has been deferred till December 18. The hearing was scheduled to take place in the sessions court on Friday.

“There are two appeals pending in the sessions court, one each by the government, against acquittal of Khan in Arms Act case and one by Khan himself, challenging the conviction in a poaching case,” said Khan’s counsel Mahesh Bora.

It may be recalled that Salman Khan had been sentenced to five years by the trial court in April, convicting him in a case under Wildlife Protection Act, for killing two black bucks in Kankani of Jodhpur on October 1-2, 1998. While in the other matter, Khan had been acquitted by the trial court in a case against him under Arms Act in February this year.

“Both the orders had been challenged in the sessions court and the arguments had begun in August on the defence’s appeal,” said Mahesh Bora, the defence counsel.

He said that after completion of the arguments on defence’s appeal, arguments will begin on state appeal against Khan’s acquittal in Arms Act case. Before this, hearing on two applications moved by prosecution against Khan, was also deferred till November 29.

One of these applications was moved by the prosecution alleging that Khan had misled the court to obtain exemption from appearance in the court on the ground of some physical problem, while the other application had alleged that Khan had given false information about his arms through an affidavit.
