Government, Jat body agree on three demands

JAIPUR: The state government and a delegation of the Bharatpur-Dholpur Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti reached an understanding on their three demands, on Friday.
Bharatpur-Dholpur Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti, led by Congress MLA Vishvendra Singh, had threatened to relaunch an agitation for reservation from Friday, if the government fails to fulfil their demands.Vishvendra Singh is the Congress MLA representing Deeg-Kumher assembly seat and is also a member of the erstwhile Bharatpur royal family.
The demands of the Jats include — reservation for the Jats of Bharatpur and Dholpur under OBC for Central government jobs, the withdrawal of cases registered against them during the previous agitations, among others.
Arun Chaturvedi, minister for social justice and empowerment, who represented the government at the meeting, said a meeting of the Bharatpur IG and Jat leaders was convened to examine withdrawal of the cases of the previous agitation. Similarly, the state would write to the Centre on their demand for reservation in Central jobs. He said the department of personnel would scrutinize the demand of the Jats of these two districts for OBC quota for the posts announced in 2013.
The Jats under the leadership of Vishvendra Singh, had sat on a dharna in front of the district police office on October 2 and declared that if the government fails to withdraw the cases within the next two days, the Jats would launch another agitation from October 5. But the efforts on the part of the district administration to bring Jats to the path of talks has helped to defuse the situation for now. The co-ordinator of the Bharatpur-Dholpur Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti, Nem Singh, led the Jat delegation.
