Gov appoints Neelima Singh as acting RTU VC
Jaipur: Governor Kalyan Singh has appointed professor Neelima Singh as the acting vice-chancellor of Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) on Monday. Singh is the vice-chancellor of Kota University. The appointment came on the last day of the RTU’s VC Narendra Kaushik’s tenure. It highlighted that state education department failed to start the recruitment process for the post of
The recruitment process begins with the formation of a search committee. The committee comprising of four members — one each of a governor, state government, UGC and the university. Thereafter it takes 3-4 months to complete the entire process. The search committee is yet to be formed for the RTU. Ideally, it should have been made months before and the name of the new VC must have been declared before the tenure of the VC gets over.
“The university has selected the name of its nominee last September but due to Vidhan Sabha polls the process didn’t take off from other stakeholders,” said a university source, who also objected that VC of a technical university must be from a technical background who can understand the intricacies of a technical university which is fundamentally different from a regular university.
“It can be disastrous to have an acting VC during a crucial part of the year which includes semester exams and admission session. Earlier, we have seen how bureaucrats, or the divisional commissioners have messed up handling the affairs of one of the most important university,” said a university source.
Meanwhile, candidates with Congress background have already started lobbying for the top post with the change in the government. Sources also said that Kaushik was not given the extension till the appointment of the new VC or till he will be retiring in May due to his appointment during the Raje government.
