Gehlot’s claim on coup plot irresponsible, says Shekhawat

Jaipur: Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Monday described as “irresponsible” chief minister Ashok Gehlot’s claims that BJP leaders Vasundhara Raje and Kailash Meghwal had helped foil a conspiracy by Congress MLAs in 2020 to topple his government.Shekhawat accused Gehlot of making such statements for political gains and playing “selective vendetta politics”. He also said Gehlot should reveal when and how the two BJP leaders had helped foil the 2020 conspiracy to topple his government.“Vasundhara Raje is our senior leader; she has been chief minister twice and also the party’s state president twice. He (Gehlot) gave such an irresponsible statement only for his political benefit and to give a message to his opponents,” said the Union Jal Shakti minister.Shekhawat further said if Gehlot had evidence of BJP giving money to Congress MLAs, he should register an FIR and seek legal action since both parties involved in bribery are equally responsible for the crime. He said senior leaders of his party are discussing what legal action should be taken after Gehlot’s statement.Meanwhile, at a press conference held at BJP’s state headquarters, former BJP state president Arun Chaturvedi, Jaipur MP Ramcharan Bohra and the party’s city district president Raghav Sharma announced their plans to organize sit-in demonstrations and Hanuman Chalisa recitation in all 250 wards of Jaipur on May 13, the 15th anniversary of serial bomb blasts shook the city in 2008.The BJP leaders also launched a poster titled ‘Jaipur Blast: Insaaf Mange Rajasthan’ and a toll-free number for people to join the campaign via missed calls.
