Gehlot slams BJP govt over repeated bomb threats to Raj Assembly
Jaipur: Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot launched a sharp attack on the ruling BJP govt in Rajasthan, citing a serious breakdown in law and order following repeated bomb threats to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly over the past two months.
Describing the Friday’s threat as “extremely unfortunate,” Gehlot said the repeated incidents point to a worsening security situation and growing audacity among criminals. He urged Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to take immediate cognisance and direct the police to arrest those responsible at the earliest to restore public confidence.
“The way law and order and security in Rajasthan are being made a mockery of is extremely unfortunate. Receiving a bomb threat to the state Assembly yet again is no ordinary matter. Such a threat was received just a few days ago as well. The repeated targeting of the state Assembly, a temple of democracy, indicates how emboldened criminals have become and that the fear of law has completely vanished from their minds,” Gehlot said on X.
“The CM (Bhajan Lal Sharma) has received threats on multiple occasions. The CM does not belong to just one party; he belongs to all of us,” he said.
Speaking to mediapersons, Gehlot said threats were issued to the chief minister and the Assembly, and questioned the Rajasthan govt over its handling of the matter.
“A threat was given to eliminate him (CM). Now, a threat has come to the Assembly for the second time. They were not caught in 6 months, so is this governance? Is there anything called administration, anything called governance in Rajasthan? This should be a concern for everyone. I don’t know why they are not able to catch them. This is a high-tech era after all. It is beyond comprehension. Now the chief minister himself is receiving threats. What could be more unfortunate than this?”
He further said, “It is a cause of concern for everyone that the CM is being threatened. The High Court, district collectorate, and other govt offices receiving threats are creating a sense of insecurity in the minds of the public.”
“When criminals are openly challenging highly sensitive institutions such as the Assembly, High Court and Collectorate, as well as a prominent figure like the CM, one can well imagine the state of security for ordinary citizens. This pattern has been continuing for nearly six months, yet the main perpetrators remain beyond the reach of the police. This situation demonstrates that security agencies and the govt have been unable to dismantle this network,” Gehlot said.
Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani said, “I urged Assembly officials and staff to remain calm and ensured their morale stayed strong during the situation. The response was responsible and disciplined.”
