JAIPUR: Union jal shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat lashed out at the Gehlot government in Rajasthan, alleging in a press conference held at the BJP headquarters in Delhi on Wednesday that the state has made the least progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission, despite the central government giving maximum resources to it for providing water supply connections.

“Tap connections in the state were around 11% when the JJM started and they have touched 39% at present. In contrast, tap connections in India were 16% when the JJM began and have touched 63% now,” said Shekhawat.

Slamming Gehlot further, he said, “Farmers used to get a subsidy of Rs 850 in power bills every month, which amounted to a relief of Rs 10,000 per year. The scheme is not functional for the past two years. Now they have promised 2,000 units of free power, replacing the old subsidy. It means farmers are getting nothing at present.”

Responding to a question on the demand for a ban on the film ‘Ajmer 1992’, he said the film should not be linked with any religion.
