JAIPUR: Today, with Dhanteras marking the first day of the five-day Diwali celebrations, its time to let loose the purse strings and indulge in revelry. And when it's the time for a city which has been voted among top 10 affluent cities in the country to go on a shopping binge, the list has to be exclusive and not the regular gold and silver purchases.
The big shoppers have already zeroed in on what they want to pick from the expensive list that includes paintings, artifacts and even expansive chocolates. It's the brand that matters; more exclusive the list, the higher the price tag and in turn the flaunt value.
We have gathered that a loving son in the city has gifted his father an all new BMW Z4 Roadster. Priced at Rs 59 lakh, the sleek new set of wheels from the German carmaker are undoubtedly one of the best pair of wheels money can buy in the city. The guy shares, "I wanted to gift something exclusive that no one else has and the car fits the bill. We will take the delivery today."
Apart from Big B of cars, Jaipurites don't mind indulging in solitaires, paintings and even chocolates. "When I came to know that a shop is offering chocolates worth Rs 2,000 a piece, I could not resist buying them for the sheer price tag of it. Left every thing and rushed to grab my pick from the limited edition chocolates," says Gautam Sharma, a software executive, who later booked his order for Diwali at the shop.
Even art shops have over the last few days have got queries, "People like investing in art and though a select few in the city there are buyers who don't mind purchasing paintings worth lakhs. Recently, our Buddha show got a lot of buyers and now with people doing up their houses decorative paintings by the likes of G S Khetanchi who specializes accentuating the femininity of Indian beauty and go up to Rs 12 Lakhs each are in demand. We have received quite a few inquiries for them," says Sangeeta Juneja of Juneja Art Gallery.
And amidst the glitter of gold, solitaires are making their presence felt even though for a niche audience. People suiting their pocket are picking up solitaires ranging from .5 carat to 10 carats and experts feel it has more to do with the stable price and value for money they offer. "This is the right time to buy diamonds for investment or adornment. Right now with gold prices fluctuating and diamonds being readily available due to recession in the world market people are going for it for they know the prices will increase once recession phase is over," said Yash Agarwal, of Birdichand Jewellers. So if you haven't made your choice make it fast before the exclusive gift of your choice is picked up.
