JAIPUR: Since the imposition of Covid curfew and closure of
Rajasthan University, first semester students are waiting for the start of online classes and completion of syllabus.
As physical classes were suspended, the
university administration
said online classes would be the sole mode of teaching, although most departments are yet to act on it.
First semester students were admitted in January and were supposed to appear for the examination from April
29. However, the rise in Covid cases forced the administration to shut classes and go virtual again, though it has not been implemented in a proper manner. Students have not been informed about the process of evaluation – through promotion or internal assessment.
Shaily Sharma, a student of MJMC said, “Only some portion of our syllabus has been completed due to lack of online classes in our department. There is a need to implement online classes properly, or else we will face immense academic loss.”
Another student
Neha Kumari
said there is confusion amongst students as the university hasn’t clarified whether students will be promoted. “We are not told how are we supposed to be evaluated and when. If we will be promoted, then should we start studying for second semester. At present, we have no such clarity and there is confusion all around.”
Last year, except final year students, all were promoted due to complete lockdown in the state. This year, however, it seems not to be an option on the government’s mind.
Rajeev Jain, vice-chancellor of the Rajasthan University, vehemently denied the charge that online classes are not happening in the university. “We are sure that online classes are happening, but if students have any complaints, they should come forward. We will look into the issue.”
