This is the first such case for SMS hospital.
Health minister Rajendra Rathore said, "The donor's family has done a great job and hence we could create history at SMS hospital."
After the donor's grandfather gave nod for cadaver organ donation, a team of specialist doctors, including Dr Christopher Berry from America and four other specialists from the urology department, Dr Vinay Tomar, Dr SS Yadav, Dr Shivam Priyadarshi, Dr Neeraj Agarwal, three anaesthetists Dr Varsha Kothari, Dr Trishla Jain, Dr Chitra and two nephrologists Dr Vinay Malhotra and Dr Pankaj Beniwal harvested the kidneys and liver and transplanted it to the needy patients.
The cadaver donar, Radha Rani, 14, resident of Bhagwatgarh of Sawai Madhopur, was admitted to the hospital on February 22 after an accident. Despite the doctors toiled hard on her, Radha Rani never came back from her coma and was finally declared brain dead on Tuesday. After intense counselling, Radha Rani's grandfather agreed to part with the little child's organs.
SMS hospital's additional superintendent Dr Ajit Singh said, "The doctors harvested her kidneys at 2am on Wednesday. One kidney was transplanted to a 47-year-old resident of Sirsi Road."
Since, there was only one patient listed in SMS hospital, who required kidney transplant, SMS hospital shared another kidney with a private hospital patient. She was brought to SMS hospital for the transplant.
Besides, the kidneys, the doctors also harvested the child's liver. Since, there is still no facility for liver transplant in the state, the health department sent the organ to the RR hospital in Delhi.
