Farmers to get central aid for crops damaged due to rain

Jaipur: The state agricultural department has asked insurance companies to conduct survey immediately of crops that have been damaged owing to sudden rainfall in the past couple of days.The state government has decided to ensure that farmers are able to avail compensation under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana MFBY scheme. The department said that due to the current rains in the state, if the crop kept for drying in the field gets spoiled after harvesting, the loss can be compensated under the scheme.Farmers have been asked approach the insurance companies for the crops they have insured within 72 hours of the damage.Agriculture minister Lalchand Kataria said that there is a possibility of damage to Kharif crops due to untimely rains at some places in the state. He said that under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme, insurance cover is available on individual basis in case the crop kept for drying in the field gets damaged within a period of 14 days after harvesting due to rains.Kataria said that information about crop loss can be obtained through the toll-free number of the insurance company or through the Crop Insurance app. Apart from this, affected farmers can also inform the insurance company in the district, agriculture office or the concerned bank by filling the loss form.Agriculture commissioner Gaurav Aggarwal has instructed officers and insurance companies to immediately start survey of crop damage.

Plea in HC on PM crop insurance scheme

The Madras High Court has asked the central and state governments to respond to a plea seeking the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) crop insurance scheme throughout the year in Tamil Nadu. The petitioner argued that the scheme's coverage for kharif crops had been neglected for the past three years, causing significant hardship for farmers. The PMFBY scheme aims to provide insurance coverage for the entire year, and its objective can only be achieved if the coverage is extended accordingly.

48cr given to farmers for crop damage

The Punjab government has credited Rs 48.26 crore to the bank accounts of farmers as crop damage relief. This includes a compensation of Rs 6,800 per acre for damage to paddy saplings, a first-time initiative. Advance relief funds of Rs 33.50 crore were released in July when flood risks were reported, with additional funds being released to affected districts as needed. District-wise, Rs 25.22 crore has been provided to farmers in Patiala, Rs 7.35 crore to Sangrur, and Rs 5.09 crore to Ferozepur.

State farm dept claims no crop damage

Excessive rainfall in Indore and nearby areas has led to waterlogging in farms, posing a risk to crops such as soybean, cotton, pulses, and horticulture crops. The standing soybean and cotton crops are expected to suffer the most damage, while the harvested soybean in fields is already being affected. Waterlogging and heavy rainfall may deteriorate the quality of crops and make harvesting difficult. Banana crops are also vulnerable to virus attacks due to excessive moisture. However, the agriculture department claims that there has been no damage to the standing crop. Farmers are now considering switching to horticulture crops due to the spoiled soybean harvest.
