JAIPUR: Despite the fact that the monsoon has taken a toll on the people of the state, yet the rain has brought smiles to the farmers who are expecting a bumper kharif crop this season.
Agricultural experts are also of the opinion that the extended monsoon this year has given hope for a bumper kharif crop.
Sowing of most kharif crops has picked up momentum in the state with the continuous spell of rain that started in the last week of August.
TOI spoke to the irrigation experts and farmers to know if the ongoing spell of the rain has been fruitful for them.
According to the experts, sowing of most kharif crops was initially lagging till mid-July but it has suddenly picked up pace from the last week of August when widespread rainfall was witnessed across the state.
They said the acreage of most crops, except for pulses and coarse cereals, is more than last year.
“The sowing of paddy normally gets over around August here but we are still continuing with it due to the extended monsoon this year,” said Satya Prakash Saini, a farmer from Chomu village near Jaipur. Jaipur Met office said there is been no sign of withdrawal of the monsoon from southern and eastern parts of the state even for the coming week as well.
