JAIPUR: A 20-year-old engineering student Piyush Sharma allegedly committed suicide after poor performance in exams at his house in Vaishya Mathur Nagar under Sanganer police station on Friday evening. He allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan when his parents went out to greet some relatives on Diwali. He left a suicide note in which he stated that he had been going through extreme stress as he had flunked in three subjects recently.
The relatives and neighbours, meanwhile, are in a state of shock. His father, who lost his only son, has fainted many times since his death. According to the relatives, as Piyush was very reserved and an introvert, nobody had even a slight anticipation that he would take such a step.
Piyush was a final-year student of a Sitapura-based private engineering college. "He was very bright in studies. In secondary, senior secondary and even till third year of Bachelor of Engineering (BE), he had secured above 75% marks. But he suffered reverses in three subjects in the semester examination of the fourth year, after which he looked a bit depressed. But nobody had thought that he would take such a step," said a relative.
Piyush's father Mahendra Kumar Gupta is a physics teacher with a government school and he was his only son. The family had shifted from Shashtri Nagar to a new house in Sanganer a few days back during Navratra. Piyush's only sister Priyanka Gupta is also an engineer and works with a multinational company in Gurgaon. "As she was married recently, there is no one to support Mahendra and his wife now," the relative added.
