JAIPUR: A day after a 23-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in her house near Pratap Nagar, the police suspect dowry harassment as the reason behind the death.
According to Ashok Chauhan, ACP, Sanagner, Renu was found hanging inside the bathroom on Sunday.
Her in-laws had informed police on Sunday that their daughter-in-law had committed suicide.
As per information, Shri Ram and Renu had got married on April 24 this year.
"Renu was studying and Shri Ram was unemployed. Renu's father Shivram alleged that his daughter was being regularly harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry," ACP Chauhan said.
The police added that last month Shri Ram's family demanded a car from Shivram. So, he had been trying to talk to parents of Shri Ram in this regard. Shivram in his FIR also alleged that Shri Ram was still studying and has no fixed source of income due to which there was a lot of tension in thehouse.
"A case under Section 304 (B) (dowry death) and Section 498 (A) (subjecting a woman to cruelty) has been registered. The family of the girl also alleged that she was undersevere mental stress due to dowry-related issues," ACP said.
He also added that police have launched an investigation into the case. They are waiting for the post-mortem report and will record statements soon.
