JAIPUR: Amid alert on Ebola, a team of five doctors from the state is attending a three-day training programme in Pune on the preparedness and ways to counter the disease from Thursday. Amid alert on Ebola, a team of five doctors from the state in Pune for three-day training on preparedness and response of the disease on Thursday. The team comprises health department additional director (rural health) Dr Ravi Prakash Sharma, joint director Dr BL Meena, SMS Hospital physician Dr Ajit Singh, microbiologist Dr Ruchi Singh and epidemiologist Dr Deepa Meena.

Ebola Virus Disease (formerly known as Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever) is a severe, often fatal illness, with a death of up to 90%. Since, World Health Organization (WHO) has alerted on Eloba, Rajasthan, which has witnessed outbreak of diseases such as swine flu and Zika last year, is taking all necessary precautions. The state is alert on Ebola as it has sent its five-member team to know more about the disease.

A health department official said ministry of health and family welfare had sent a letter to additional chief secretary (health) Rohit Kumar Singh on November 8 about the three-day training of rapid response teams on ‘preparedness and response of Ebola virus disease’ which is being organized in collaboration with World Health Organization in Pune begun on Thursday.

Cases of Ebola virus diseases, which is a fatal illness with a fatality rate of upto 90%, were first reported from

West Africa

in 2014.

Following the outbreak of Ebola in some African countries, The Centre had directed all the state to keep a constant vigil and raise level of awareness and knowledge of surveillance officers and healthcare provider. The centre has also informed the state about the facility of testing the sample of suspected Ebola case, which is available at National institute of Virology, Pune.
