UDAIPUR: The authorities investigating Ruchita Gupta murder case are still unclear about several facts, despite the accused having surrendered and confessed to his crime.
Divya Kothari, the 22-year old accused who brutally killed the young lawyer inside her flat on December 1, was produced at the magistrate's residence here on Sunday. On the cops' demand for further extending his remand period, the court sent him to police custody until December 13.
Ealier, his remand was till December 11.
Divya had surrendered at a police station on December 3 and had been regularly interrogated by the cops at Ambamata and Sukher police stations since then. "We require some more time for intensive investigation on some specific points. We have recovered major evidences including murder weapon, blood-soaked clothes and Ruchita's blood stains inside Divya's flat. However, to ensure that due to lack of eye witnesses, culprit gets no space to escape during the trial, we are doing everything possible to make the case strong" said Mangilal Punwar, the investigating officer and SHO, Sukher police station.
The cops took Divya to all the places he said he had gone after killing Ruchita. Police cross- checked with all those people whom Divya had met in 24 hours after the murder. The authorities who had earlier claimed Divya to be a mental illness patient, are now convinced that he is absolutely normal. "We find no reason that he should be examined for mental health as he is behaving perfectly like an adult, he remembers everything clearly unlike the claims he made earlier of forgetting things," Mangilal said.
The accused confessed he had felt strong affection for Ruchita aunty for 3 years. She was his neighbor and his mother's good friend. He approached her for physical intimacy, tore her clothes but when the woman vehemently opposed his moves, he hit her head, smashed her face against the room wall several times and stabbed her. Ruchita's jaw had broken and eyes bulged out after the severe assault. When the police first arrived at the crime scene, Divya had stood innocently among the crowd. However, when he felt he would be caught, he left his home later in afternoon the same day leaving a suicide note behind in which he wrote that he had no role in Ruchita aunty's murder. Police efforts failed to trace him on December 1 but soon Divya surrendered.
Meanwhile, Ruchita's parents have softened their approach towards her husband KrishnaVallabh Gupta, against whom they had levelled charges of killing their daughter. Convinced with the evidences that indicated Gupta's innocence in the act, Ruchita's family members who arrived in Udaipur from Ajmer on Saturday, allowed Gupta to meet his kids Arushi and Arnav.
