Jaipur: The health department will provide deworming medicines to 3.33 crore targeted children and adolescent girls in the age group of 1 to 19 years in the state on October 17. The medicines will be given free of cost at all the schools, colleges and anganwadi centres of the state to help children and the adolescent population get rid of worms in the stomach.
Health department secretary Dr Prithvi Raj said worm infection in the stomachs of children is a common ailment. “These worms, found in the intestines, eat away the nutrients in the body and cause anaemia and malnutrition. This worm infection also affects children’s physical and mental development adversely,” he added.
All the children between age 6 and 19 will be given the medicines at schools and colleges while children from aged 1 to 5 will be provided the same at anganwadi centres. Children left out on the first day will be given the medicines on October 18. tnn
