JAIPUR: It was a nightmarish experience for the principal and staff of Government PG College in Dausa when hundreds of students ransacked the college premises and allegedly manhandled the principal on Friday.
Agitating students were demanding an inquiry into the academic qualification of Paramveer Doyi, who won the president's post in student union polls after defeating Danduram Meena of
NSUI with the margin of 52 votes.
The agitators claimed Paramveer was not eligible to contest but college administration did not take any action.
On Friday morning, hundreds of students gathered in front of principal J P Verma's office and demanded he furnish details about Paramveer's academic qualification within one hour.
When Verma tried to pacify them, they allegedly manhandled him and other staff members and damaged college property. When local media persons tried to take photographs on the spot, the rowdy students locked them in a room.
A college staff said the students were not ready to listen to anyone, including the principal, for they were frustrated over the defeat of their candidate. "If they had any grievances, the issue should have been raised in a proper manner," he added.
Dausa police registered a case against the students and matter is under investigation. However, on the issue of students manhandling the principal, a senior police official said no complaint has been received from the principal. Police would act if a complaint is received. J P Verma refused to confirm whether he was manhandled by the students.
