Cops recover stolen silver jewellery worth Rs 10L, nab 2
Jaipur: City police Thursday solved a burglary case reported from a silver jewellery workshop in Mehandi ka Chauk under the Manak Chowk police station area and recovered stolen silver jewellery worth around Rs 10 lakh.SHO Manak Chowk Rakesh Khyalia said one accused was arrested for committing the theft, while another was held for receiving stolen property. A search is on for one more suspect linked to the crime. The arrested thief was identified as Rehan (20), while Mohammad Sajid (26) was arrested for receiving the stolen goods. Deputy commissioner of police (North) Karan Sharma said the burglary was carried out on the night of Jan 26 at a workshop-cum-shop in Mehandi ka Chauk. According to the FIR, complainant Lakshman Singh, who runs a silver jewellery workshop, found the locks of his safe broken when he opened the shop on the morning of Jan 27. Police said the accused broke through a wall of the workshop and decamped with around 3kg of silver jewellery. Following the incident, police deployed plainclothes surveillance teams and scanned footage from over 100 CCTV cameras in the surrounding lanes and entry routes.
Based on technical analysis and local intelligence inputs, police traced and arrested Rehan, who later led the team to the recovery of the stolen silver items. During interrogation, Rehan disclosed that he committed the burglary along with an associate, Shafigul, who is currently absconding. Police said the 2 targeted locked or vacant premises in congested localities and entered through rooftops or windows before escaping through narrow lanes. Police further said Rehan sold part of the stolen jewellery to scrap dealer Mohammad Sajid at low prices. Sajid was arrested for receiving stolen property, and the jewellery sold to him was recovered. Police said the accused also confessed to involvement in other thefts in the area. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding accused, and further investigation is in progress.
