Cops parade rape accused in public

Jaisalmer: Police here on Wednesday paraded on the road in Bhaniyana area a local strongman, Hari Singh Charan, who was absconding since he allegedly kidnapped and raped a local 14-year-old girl from an SC/ST community. Police arrested him from Jodhpur and the Bhaniyana police paraded him through the locality while taking him to court. About one-and-a-half month ago, Charan had allegedly kidnapped and raped the minor girl. Since then he was absconding and Bhaniyana police had announced a reward of Rs 10,000 on information leading to his arrest. Police said Charan was booked under Pocso Act, SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections for kidnapping. Pokhran deputy superintendent of police Kailash Vishnoi said that Charan had some clout in Bhaniyana, which was why he was paraded for all to see. People gathered when he was being taken on foot to the court, Vishnoi said, adding that the court sent Charan to jail under judicial custody.
