JAIPUR: It was with a heavy heart and a stern face that a head constable of Jaipur police took his sobbing son to the police station to reveal his son’s involvement in the murder of a property dealer on Saturday.
Commissioner of police, Anand Srivastava told TOI that he was immensely proud of head constable Kailash Chandra’s act of discipline and commitment to the justice even in the face of personal upheaval.
“The accused Sudhir Kumar Sharma had a dispute with the victim Shravan Sharma over some transaction of money in an inebriated condition and Sudhir murdered Shravan and dumped the latter’s body at a secluded location in Harmada,” the commissioner said.
When a petrified Sudhir admitted to the crime to his wife, she alerted Kailash about the incident.
According to the police, when the head constable learnt about his son’s misdeeds, he did not waste any time and took him straight to the police station.
“He took him to the police station and told the station staff that his son had committed a crime. This is truly living up to the motto of duty above everything else,” said Srivastava.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vikas Sharma said that Sudhir has been arrested by the Harmada police station under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and is being interrogated. Victim Shravan’s body was handed over to his grieving family after the post-mortem on Saturday afternoon.
When TOI spoke to the head constable, he replied, “I do not have anything to say.”
The DCP said that Shravan, a native of Shri Madhopur in Sikar district, was reportedly missing from his Kalwar-situated house on Wednesday.
The Kalwar police station had also registered a missing person’s report (MPR). But it was only on the indication of Sudhir that the police were able to track down the body from a deserted house tucked away from the main road in Harmada.
