Construction of 48-km pathway for Khatu Shyam Ji pilgrims nears end
Jaipur: National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is constructing a dedicated 48-kilometre pathway from Jaipur to Reengus to enhance the safety of devotees participating in the religious foot march to Khatu Shyam Ji. The pathway is expected to be completed by Feb 25. Once finished, it will provide a safe and congestion-free route for pilgrims, who previously navigated heavy traffic on the Jaipur-Bikaner highway. An official said, "The dedicated path spans 48 kilometre and is approximately 10 feet wide. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore, the pathway includes proper signage, resting points, and safety measures for pedestrians." Every year, lakhs of devotees walk to Khatu Shyam Ji, especially during the annual Lakhdatar Mela (fair). The increasing footfall has raised concerns about safety, as pilgrims often share the highway with high-speed vehicles. An NHAI official said, "The initiative will reduce the risk of accidents and ensure a smoother journey for devotees. Every year, we receive reports of accidents along this stretch due to mixed traffic. This pathway will provide a safer, more organised route for pilgrims." Additionally, a separate route from Reengus to Khatu already exists, ensuring a seamless pilgrimage experience. Authorities have also placed restrictions on vehicle movement near the temple to minimise congestion during the fair."A 17 km long carpet will be laid from Reengus to Khatu for the comfort of the pilgrims. As before, 14 queues will be maintained for darshan. Four queues will start from Kabootar Chowk, two from Guwad Chowk, and eight will be along the main exit. The temple committee will share darshan timings and other details on its social media pages and website," said an administrative official.Apart from this, the administration has designated separate routes for e-rickshaws and pedestrians. A permanent route is being constructed at a cost of Rs 7.40 crore, connecting the 52-bigha parking area to the Shyam Toran Gate. Unlicensed e-rickshaws will be strictly monitored to prevent congestion. Small vehicles will be restricted from Manda Mod and Reengus Khatu Mod to the temple.Check out the Valentine Day 2025 , along with the Valentine’s Day Wishes and Messages.
