Jaipur: For a change, Congress and BJP councillors of JMC-Greater, who are always against each other, came together to oppose the current functioning of the corporation.
Congress and BJP councillors staged a protest at Murlipura zone office against the bad civic conditions. Meanwhile, one Congress councillor Bharat Kumar from ward 147 alleged that deputy commissioner of building and planning misbehaved with him. In solidarity with Bharat, all the BJP and Congress councillor protested at the Lal Kothi office.
Later in the day, Murlipura zone councillors also joined the protest at Lal Kothi office supporting the cause of Bharat Kumar while raising their issues.
Deepmala Sharma, BJP councillor of ward 16, said that there is no civic work is going on in the zone. “Door-to-door garbage collection, road clean, sewerage choke or road repair – no civic work is properly going on in the wards. Hence, both Congress and BJP councillors staged this protest. Public hold us responsible but officials don’t work properly. We came to Lal Kothi office for our issues and to support Bharat Kumar as well as these issues impacts us,” said Deepmala.
Councillor from ward 147, Bharat Kumar while talking to TOI said that he went to meet deputy commissioner Mahesh Maan but he didn’t listen to him.
“I went to meet Mahesh Maan regarding the lease deed of residents in my ward, but he refused to talk to me and told me to leave when I asked for his cooperation. I told him that I am a councillor, but he didn’t care and called his guards who tried to push me out of his office. This is not the kind of behaviour we will tolerate against our prestige and action should be taken against the officer,” said Bharat.
Deputy commissioner Bharat Kumar refuted the claims of misbehaviour and said that Bharat Kumar didn’t state his purpose of visit and created a scene without any reason.
He said Bharat Kumar should clarify why was he visiting the department without which we can’t help.

When asked how both the parties have come together, BJP councillor Arun Verma said that it is not about the party but their respect as public representatives. “We are here in solidarity with Bharat Kumar. No official can misbehave with a councillor and if that will be the case then we will oppose this despite being from rival party. Today, it is a Congress councillor and tomorrow BJP councillors will be humiliated,” said Arun Verma.
