CM Bhajan Lal Sharma unveils war hero’s statue in Churu
Jaipur: Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma unveiled a statue of war hero Lt Gen Sagat Singh Rathore and inaugurated the ‘Shaurya Ke Saath Sankalp Divas’ programme at Churu Wednesday.
Celebrating the valour of Rajasthan’s soldiers, Sharma hailed Lt Gen Sagat as a paragon of bravery and an inspiration to the youth. He highlighted the general’s military career, which began at age 19 in the Bikaner State Forces, recalling his significant contributions to operations during the Indo-China war and the Bangladesh Liberation War. The CM also announced the renaming of the Churu stadium in honour of the decorated officer.
Focusing on the govt’s commitment to soldiers’ welfare, Sharma announced various initiatives, including the establishment of Rajasthan’s first integrated soldiers’ welfare complex in Didwana-Kuchaman, new district welfare offices, and concessions for war widows and ex-servicemen. He reiterated the govt’s dedication to enhancing honorariums and providing reservations for Agniveers in essential state services like police and fire departments.
Brigadier (retd) K Birendra Singh Khangarot, who commanded the same battalion as Lt Gen Sagat, paid tribute to his leadership qualities, recalling his dedication and integrity that shone even in his school days. Brig Khangarot noted the significance of understanding Lt Gen Sagat’s command decisions, encouraging attendees to delve into his biography for insights into his monumental contributions.
