JAIPUR: If everything works out fine, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) will start supplying 700 million litres of water per day (MLD) from Bisalpur to Jaipur by mid-July. This will be the first time that the capital city will receive 700 MLD of water.
The Bisalpur II project will start supplying 816 MLD to Jaipur and places on the way to the city, which is 200 MLD more than the current capacity, officials told TOI.

Out of this, around 700 MLD will be for the city and the rest for towns and villages on the route.

"One of the important additions to the Bisalpur supply scheme by the Bisalpur II project is a new pumphouse in Renwal. In the first week of July, we will start the trial run of this pumphouse. During this period, we will try to supply maximum capacity to ensure that everything is in order. Jaipur has never received 700 MLD from Bisalpur," said Satish Jain, superintendent engineer (projects), PHED.
When the Bisalpur project began in 2009, 400 MLD was supplied to the city (340 MLD) and for areas along the route.
In 2014, the government gave sanction to increase the capacity by another 200 MLD, which was completed in 2016. At present, out of the 600 MLD, Jaipur receives 500 MLD and the rest goes to areas on the way.
"Perhaps this will be last augmentation for the present Bisalpur II project. Once the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project begins supply, we will have an alternative line for water from Bisalpur to Jaipur," said another PHED official. The Bisalpur II project will also enhance the capacity of the water treatment plant in Surajpura. Nine new pumps have been installed in the newly constructed intermediate pumping station in Renwal. Water will be supplied from Surajpura via Renwal pumping station to the storage facility in Balawala, located at the entry point of Jaipur city in Sanganer.
