Sharma, who assumed office last week, held a review meeting with the state government officials on Tuesday and said issues pertaining to maintenance of the Chambal valley project too would be taken up with the

Madhya Pradesh government

. Rajasthan would press for having its full share of the project water.

The dispute over Chambal water sharing between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh has remained unresolved despite several rounds of negotiations between the two neighbouring states. One of the issues relates to MP government having stopped payments for maintenance of Chambal valley project.

The project includes Gandhi Sagar dam, Rana Pratap Sagar dam, Jawahar Sagar dams and Kota barrage. Water released after power generation at the three dams is diverted by Kota barrage for irrigation in Rajasthan and in MP.

The project is built on the 960-km-long

Chambal river

, which originates near Mhow town in Indore district, flows through northeast Madhya Pradesh for 346-km, enters Rajasthan and meanders for 225 kms before forming the boundary between Rajasthan and MP for nearly 217-km and then turning southeast to join the Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh.
