Canadian couple gets nod for adoption

JAIPUR: The wait of two years for Canadian couple, David and Violet Krahn, to adopt from India is finally over and they have been allowed to adopt sister duo Radhika and Deepika who are currently in a children's home in

Jodhpur

. According to the officials, the formalities have been completed and the girls can leave with their parents as soon their passports are ready. The overjoyed Krahns plan on taking the girls back to

Canada

and claim that they will ensure that the sisters do not lose touch with their Indian heritage in spite of being abroad.

The sisters aged 5 and 4 years, had a dreary childhood as they lived with their mother and her partner in a slum. After the death of the mother due to cancer two years back, her partner did not take any care of the girls thus leaving them malnourished and instead asked them to earn money on their own following which they were brought to Nav Jeevan Sansthan in Jodhpur. Rajinder Singh who is in-charge of the Sansthan said, "the sisters are extremely close to each other and they have been staying here for close to 2 years. We always wanted that they should be adopted together in one home and we are very happy with their adoption.”

Talking about the adoption, David told TOI, "We had applied around 2 years back to adopt and now we are applying for passports for our daughters in Jaipur on Tuesday. We know they have had a tough childhood and we are looking forward to our time together as a family. Also, in

Toronto

we have a little India, so we plan on visiting often so the girls keep in touch with their birth country." The 34-year-old David is a carpenter while his wife, Violet works in a day care centre.
