JAIPUR: Finally, the police managed a breakthrough in Amit Nair murder case .
Police have arrested Mukesh, Amit’s brother-in-law from Didwana on Friday.
There were reports that Nair’s in-laws are the accused in the case, who allegedly resorted to occult practices to separate Nair from his wife Mamta. However, police claimed that the information was not authentic.
“We have information of occult practices but it is not authentic. When we arrest the accused and investigate the case further, we will be able to find out more details in the case,” said Ashok Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (west).
However, police claimed that it was not the first time Nair’s in-laws went to his house with the intention to kill him. “Earlier also they had gone to his house but the couple was not at home,” Gupta said.
On Wednesday morning, Nair (30) was shot dead in his house at Jagdamba Vihar in the city.
It is believed that the victim’s in-laws brought an unidentified man who opened fire in the house. It is suspected to be a case of honour killing as the woman had gone for an inter-caste marriage against her parent’s will. To avenge the insult, her parents plotted the murder.
Police are on the lookout for the accused.
“Our teams are searching them in different areas of the state,” said additional commissioner of police (crime) Prafful Kumar.
Nair, a civil engineer, married Mamta Chaudhary (26). But, Mamta’s parents were reportedly not happy with the marriage.
Thus, the family of the girl decided not to keep any contact with their daughter and son-in-law.
Police said that Mamta’s father Jeevan Ram Chaudhary (65) and her mother, on Wednesday visited her house with an unidentified man who carried out the crime
Amit died on the spot as he suffered grave injuries on his neck, windpipe and chest.
