JAIPUR: Bone-chilling cold wave returned to the state on Saturday, with Fatehpur in Sikar district seeing the mercury dip to minus 3.5°C and remaining the coldest place in the state this season so far. This is the second lowest minimum temperature recorded for the month in Fatehpur after January 2, 2014, when the mercury had plunged to minus 5.2°C.
Attributing the revival of the severe cold wave conditions to the vanishing of western disturbances, upper air cyclonic circulation, and active northerly winds, Jaipur Met office said the ongoing spell will continue till Wednesday and temperature will continue to take a dip.
Minimum and maximum temperatures saw sharp dips in most of the places. Fatehpur was followed by Churu, where a minimum temperature of -0.7 °C was recorded.
People in Churu, especially the farmers, had a hard time in the morning when they went out to irrigate their fields. "As I watered the mustard crop, water droplets froze. Water flowing from the pipes became ice candies. The severe cold wave has damaged our crops," said Sharavan Joshi, a farmer and native of Fatehpur, who is farming on 40 bighas.

An officer with the weather observatory at Fatehpur said, “The last time the lowest minimum January temperature in Fatehpur was recorded was on January 2, 2014, when it was -5. 2°C. On December 19, 2021, a minimum temperature of -5. 2°C was recorded here. ”
In Jaipur, people woke up to a chilly morning with a minimum temperature of 8. 5°C. Although the day remained bright and sunny, northerly winds continued to blow and led to a fall in maximum temperatures. The city’s maximum temperature was 19. 5°C. In the evening, roads wore an empty look as people confined themselves to their homes to avoid getting a cold after celebrating the kite festival.
Churu was followed by Pilani with 2. 9°C, Sikar 3. 5°C, Phalodi 3. 8°C, Jaisalmer 3. 9°C, Sriganganagar 4. 6°C, Bhilwara 6°C, Jodhpur 7. 2°C, Udaipur and Barmer 7. 4°C each, Ajmer 7. 8°C, Chittorgarh 8°C, Alwar 9. 5°C and Kota 8. 1°C. In its forecast, Jaipur Met office said cold wave conditions would further aggravate in the state, especially in Jaipur, Bharatpur and Bikaner divisions, in the next 24 hours.
