BJP vs BJP in JMC-G over agenda of executive meet

Jaipur: It’s BJP vs BJP at the Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater. A section of BJP councillors, led by deputy mayor Puneet Karnawat, are opposing BJP mayor’s agendas set for executive meeting on May 25.The antagonists are claiming that though assembly elections in state are nearing, mayor Somya Gurjar and commissioner Mahendra Soni have not fixed any agenda related to public welfare for the meeting.“Almost all agendas fixed by the management are related to finance, mostly pending bills of the JMC-G contractors. This is unfortunate. Discussions on public projects should be included in the meeting, especially when several public projects undertaken by the us are facing several problems,” said Karnawat.Karnawat had recently written to Gurjar asking her to include discussions on a few public projects in addition to the 21 points finalised by the civic body in a notification dated May 18.“You (mayor) had invited suggestions from all councillors and they had suggested several issues of public interest like cleanliness, ongoing process of dairy booth allotment, sewerage problems in areas under our jurisdiction and issues related to urban development taxes. Unfortunately, these suggestions did not a find a place in the list of agendas for the executive meeting notified by the civic body. Hope the commissioner will add all these important issues in the list of agendas and issue a revised notification,” the letter stated.Karnawat himself had sent a list of 17 points on May 15 to be added in the list, which did not find any place in the notification. This list included discussions on sanitation system, issues of recovering UD taxes, problems related to streetlights, dairy booth allotment process and garbage transportation. Karnawat had also requested the mayor to include the long-pending demand of renaming Tonk Road as Bhairon Singh Shekhawat Road, with 2023 being celebrated as birth centenary of the late CM of state and former Vice-President of India.
