Bhilwara: Hanuman Nagar police in Bhilwara district seized 978.6 kg of marijuana worth Rs 4.89 crore on Wednesday, arresting two smugglers in the process. This marks the second significant anti-drug operation in the district within five days.
Last week, Bijolia police intercepted a truck carrying 665.5 kg of marijuana valued at Rs 3.32 crore. Together, the two operations have resulted in seizure of 1,644 kg of marijuana.
Bhilwara SP Dharmendra Singh said these actions are part of an intensified campaign to dismantle
drug trafficking networks in the region. A special team, led by Shahpura additional SP Rajesh Kumar Arya and Jahazpur deputy SP Narendra Parik, was formed to execute the operation.
Acting on a tip-off received by Hanuman Nagar station in-charge Shankar Singh, police set up a checkpoint on National Highway 52 near Balaji Tihari. A container truck (registration number RJ 41 GA 5602) was stopped and searched, revealing plastic bags filled with marijuana. The total haul, weighing 978.6 kg, was seized, and two Jaipur-based smugglers—Shahrukh Mohammad (22) and Sachin Gurjar (19) were arrested.
The smugglers have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the investigation has been handed over to Jahazpur station in-charge Manish Dev. Authorities are interrogating the suspects to identify the source of the drugs and their intended destination.
