JODHPUR: The administration of MG hospital, where the banned IV fluid was found to be in use, has suspended the ward incharge holding her responsible for failing to report the presence of the banned fluid in the ward. The drug controller of Jodhpur, who rushedto the hospital on Wednesday night, seized 250 bottles of IV fluid from theParenteral Surgicals Ltd. including two from the 0077 batch, the samples ofwhich had failed the endotoxin test. Taken aback by the presence of this fluid,the SN Medical College administration has also formed a search team to find ifany more stock of this fluid is present elsewhere. One nursing staffhad noticed the bottles of IV fluid with a patient in the ESI ward of MGHospital on Wednesday night. Upon this, the drug control departmentwas informed who rushed to the hospital and found the stock present for use inthe ward store. Drug controller Ashok Bhandari said they seized all the 250bottles of the fluid of different batches supplied by the Parenteral SurgicalsLtd., which also included two bottles from 0077 batch. It is evident that thefluid from 0077 batch was found contaminated and the administration of which hadled to death of 17 just-delivered women.
The drug control department had seizedand froze all the fluid supplied by the company. “When the ward incharge Shanti Rathore, who had the responsibility of the ward store as well, failed to give any satisfactory reply regarding the presence of the fluid in the store, she was suspended with immediate effect,” said Arvind Mathur, superintendent of MG Hospital. Meanwhile, taken aback by the presence of the fluid of Parenteral Surgicals Ltd. in the hospital, principal of S N Medical College R K Aseri has issued an order to form a search team, which will search all stores of all the wards of all the three hospitals to see if the fluid of this particular company is still available. “We have asked the team to send all this fluid, if found, to the central store and take appropriate action against the delinquent staff, who failed or neglected to report the presence of the fluid to the hospital administration or the drug control department,” said Aseri.
