Ajmer: A bandh was observed Saturday in Bijaynagar town in Beawar district to demand a CBI investigation into the case of "sexual abuse" of school-going girls. Sarva Hindu Samaj Sangarsh Samiti called for this bandh and also organised a rally in the town, expressing anger over the slow pace of the investigation. Before this, a bandh was also observed on Feb 21.
Shops, markets, and local transport in Bijaynagar were closed during the entire day, with police deployed at every corner of the town. Members of the sangarsh samiti staged a protest at the SDM office. "We need a fair investigation," said Lalit Sharma, a member of the samiti. "The abuse of the minor girls was part of a conspiracy, and the SIT (special investigation team) is not investigating this conspiracy," said Surya Prakesh, another member.
Protesters first gathered at Char Batti Chauraha, where they shouted slogans against the slow pace of the police probe and warned that they would intensify their agitation if the investigation was not transferred to the CBI.
On Feb 15, three parents registered FIRs against persons belonging to a particular community of sexual abuse of their daughters. Right-wing organisations came out to protest, and soon, police started making arrests. A total of 13 accused have been arrested, with 10 currently in jail, and three minors sent to a correction centre.
