Promoting wellness by using more shree ann (millets) in food, the institute is now venturing into selling bakery items, flour for diabetic patients, lip balm, one-minute energy drink, and other such products that are organic and healthy. It is also inviting companies to use their formulas in making products for sale in markets.

"Our bakery will come up soon. People are becoming more aware about their health, they want to avoid food that is rich in trans-fat and high in glycemic index. Our flour is much better than the multigrain flour for diabetic patients as it has low glycemic index. Our bakery items such as cookies have no trans-fats," said Dr Anupam Shrivastava, HOD of 'rasa shastra' (ayurvedic pharmaceuticals) and medical superintendent of NIA.

The NIA has launched its own energy drink-a one-minute energy booster made of sattu (flour made from shree ann). Ten grams of the drink will give 38.1g calories and 7.8g carbohydrates. For children, the NIA has prepared a jam with triphala (a herbal preparation that helps in digestion). Another product is a lip balm, prepared from coconut oil, olive oil, cow milk ghee, ratanjot and rose. A foot care cream has been prepared with plant-based ingredients.
