Assault on martyrs’ widows: Meena records his statement

Jaipur: Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena appeared before the three-member National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) team to record his statement in the case of ill-treatment of three widows of the Pulwama terror attack martyrs on Tuesday.
Jaipur police are accused of manhandling three widows---- Sundari Devi, wife of martyr Jeetram Gurjar; Manju Jat, wife of martyr Rohitash Lamba; and Madhubala Meena, wife of martyr Hemraj Meena in February and March this year while they were demanding statues of their husbands in their native villages and government jobs as promised by the Gehlot government.
The NHRC is examining two cases – the arrest of the three widows and Meena on February 10 from the state assembly in Jaipur and the illegal detention of these women and Meena on March 4 while they were on their way to a temple in Samod in Jaipur.
“Meena in his statement recorded that police in a planned manner arrested the widows of the Pulwama attack martyrs. They were aware of the sensitivity of the case but not only manhandled them but also abused them on both occasions. The way they were treated is a serious violation of their human rights,” said a source.
Meena submitted a video recording to the NHRC team.
“The team has also recorded the testimony of the two widows and the remaining widow will appear before them on Wednesday. The commission is examining whether the police followed the protocol in the case or not. Also, will assess what all promises made by the Gehlot government have been met,” said a source. The team will be here till June 30.
