In government records, it is just a ward of government-run Rajiv Gandhi Hospital but it is operational as Geetanand Child Hospital. The matter has come to light following deaths of children in Kota’s JK Lon Hospital hit the headlines.

According to government records, it is a 23-bed paediatric ward with 18 healthcare staff. But, in reality it has 73 beds with Facility-Based Newborn Care (FBNC) unit. The hospital has an emergency and outdoor unit. It is a full-fledge hospital functional without state government’s recognition.

For the past 16 years, the residents of the area have been demanding to convert the ward into a hospital in government records, but all efforts went in vain.

Geetanand Child Hospital principal medical officer Dr Sunil Chouhan has taken up the issue and wrote to Congress minister Tikaram Julie for granting it hospital recognition.

Julie has assured him of taking measures in this direction. He said in the past, steps were taken for government recognition for the hospital, but now efforts will be intensified for improving facilities in the hospital.

Nurisng association’s district head Pushpraj Sharma said it was wrong as per norms, but they were providing treatment to patients just because of humanity as the hospital is functioning against norms.
