All 6 acquitted in NHAI consultant murder case

JAIPUR: Three years after Jaipur police celebrated with gallantry awards for solving the murder of NHAI consultant Rajinder Kumar Chawla, a trial court on Tuesday acquitted all six accused arrested in 2021, citing numerous inconsistencies and gaps in the investigation. The verdict has come as an embarrassment for the police department and a stark reminder of the inadequacies in the investigation in another high-profile case, the 2008 Jaipur serial blasts, in which Rajasthan HC had last year acquitted all four accused awarded death penalty.

Chawla was shot dead outside NHAI office in Aug 2021.

Police said they would examine the order and decide on the next course of action. tnn
