Ajmer civic body seals 13 under-construction bldgs as Urs approaches

Ajmer: The Ajmer Municipal Corporation (AMC) Monday sealed 13 under-construction buildings in the Dargah region due to a ban on construction looking at the approaching yearly Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Earlier, 24 such buildings were sealed by the AMC. Meanwhile, the Govt Railway Police (GRP) has increased vigilance on the railway platform as a large number of devotees are expected here. The district police have made a temporary police chowki at Kayar Vishramsthali where the devotees will stay.The formal start of the Urs will be on Dec 17 when Bhilwara's Gori family will perform the ritual of hoisting the flag on the Buland Darwaja. The district administration has set up temporary tents for devotees to keep them warm in the cold weather. Intelligence Bureau department official said, "We have not received information till now about the Pakistani delegation coming to attend the Urs." According to Khadim Syaed Kutubuddin Sakhi, the rituals will start with the sighting of the moon on Dec 21, and the Jannati Darwaza will be open for the devotees for next six days. Additional District Magistrate Narendra Kumar Meena said, "The district administration is in-charge of law and order and facilities for the devotees, and everything is in place." He added that the devotees staying at Kayar Vishramsthali will get food packets at concessional rates and get cooking cylinders and other grocery items.
