Agent detained over Raj youth cyber fraud in Cambodia
Bhilwara: Chittorgarh police detained an agent Lucky Mochi Friday for questioning over allegations that youth from Rajasthan were sent abroad on the pretext of computer jobs and then forced into cybercrime in Cambodia.Chittorgarh SP Manish Tripathi said various teams were formed to detain the agent after the expose. He was questioned about how Indian youth were pushed towards cybercrime in Cambodia. Tripathi said, "After TOI's report, we detained Mochi, a resident of Gangrar area of Chittorgarh, who is being questioned. We contacted the Indian Embassy in Cambodia and spoke with officials."
A TOI news report titled, "Youths lured to Cambodia with fake jobs, forced into cybercrime," published Friday detailed how unsuspecting youngsters were being trapped into cybercrime after being promised computer related jobs in foreign lands. The Chittorgarh SP said Indian Embassy officials told him that Mochi had sent several youths from Rajasthan abroad on the pretext of good jobs in the computer field. Police said the embassy officials stated that when Indian youth reached Cambodia, after they were received at the airport, their visa, passport and mobile were confiscated, and they were forcibly given one month of training in cybercrime before being made to commit cyber fraud targeting people in Hindi-speaking states in India. Police said the Indian Embassy officials said when Indian youths went to Cambodia, they were first trained with AI software to mimic a girl's voice so that they could defraud Hindi speaking Indian citizens. Police said the embassy also stated that scripts on how to commit cyber fraud against Indian citizens were written and provided by trainers in Cambodia who previously committed cyber fraud, and that based on these scripts, Indian citizens were targeted using the youth's own mobiles. Police said questioning revealed that the detained Mochi took Rs 15,000 from each youth before sending them abroad. Police said information was also being obtained from the detained youth about a young couple from Chittorgarh district who were also sent abroad and made cyber criminals. Tripathi appealed to parents and youth in Chittorgarh district to verify the authenticity of overseas job offers with Chittorgarh police before travelling abroad.
