JAIPUR: A turnout of 84.46% was recorded till the end of elections across 704 gram panchayats, where polls were held for the posts of sarpanch and ward panchs. A gram panchayat in Jaisalmer’s Mohangarh panchayat samiti has registered highest polling in the state, at 98.2 per cent. Meanwhile, Siwana panchayat samiti recorded lowest polling percentage at 68.32 per cent.
Among others, Jaisalmer’s Sam panchayat samiti recorded percentage of 95.28%, Barmer’s Adel panchayat samiti registered 92.22 per cent polling and Jaisalmer recorded 92.06% polling. On the other hand, Sirohi district’s Sheoganj panchayat samiti recorded only 68.33% polling.
These elections are being held for panchayats where nominations were already conducted but the nomination papers were kept in sealed envelopes after Supreme Court’s decision to stay the HC order cancelling two delimitation notifications.
The elections were held in Ajmer, Alwar, Banswara, Barmer, Bharatpur, Ganganagar, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Baran, Bhilwara, Churu, Dholpur, Jalore, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Sawai Madhopur and Sirohi. The polls for the post of upsarpanch will be held on March 16.
