KOTA: Bundi Sadar police on intervening night of Friday and Saturday rescued at least 53 calves and a dead one from a truck left stationary near Chapras village on Kota – Jaipur national highway under Bundi sadar police station area.

Police lodged a case under sections of

cow

protection Act against unidentified accused and sent the rescued calves to a goushala.

On the tip off of calves being illegally transported for slaughter on a truck from Shahapura to Maharashtra via Bundi on intervening night of Friday and Saturday, the members of Gouraksha Dal in Bundi attempted to stop the truck on Shahapura road, but the driver, seeing members of Gouraksha Dal, sped towards Jaipur, said Nitesh Gandhi, a member of Gouraksha Dal in Bundi.

The gourakshaks also chased the truck by car but the truck driver took a u-turn near Sathur village and headed on NH- 52 to Kota, he said, adding a police van also joined the chase near Bundi Tunnel following which the truck driver left the truck on the highway to Kota near Chapras village .

“At least 53 calves were rescued from the truck near Chapras village on highway to Kota,” told sub-inspector of Bundi Sadar police station Ramesh Chand Meena. “The calves were tightly packed in the container,” he added.
