JAIPUR: The residents of

Vijay Path

area had a harrowing time when over three dozen rowdy inmates of Veer Gujjar Hostel pelted stones at locals, injuring a 40-year-old woman and vandalising two vehicles late on Thursday night. The police have arrested 33 students for disrupting law and order.

The incident took place late on Thursday night when the hostellers and residents had a heated debate, following which the students reportedly attacked them with stones and bricks. "There was a newly paved road near the hostel, some residents had passed over it which snowballed into a major argument between the two factions," said

Moti Doongri

SHO Pradeep Yadav.

One resident identified as

Indra Devi

sustained injuries on her arm and was rushed to SMS hospital. "The students were drunk and were hurling abuses. They didn't even spa re the elderly people who tried to calm down the situation. All of a sudden, some hostel students started raining bricks on us," said

Gyansudan Ratnu

, an eyewitness.

The locals alleged that most of the students were heavily drunk and were indulging in vulgarity. A senior official informed TOI that a complaint was given by a resident that hostel inmates were indulging in immoral behaviour. "There is a temple near the hostel. Several women pass through this area. These inmates, mostly in the age group of 19 to 25, stand there in undergarments and make obscene gestures," said the official.

Hours before midnight, the control room received frantic calls from the residents. A team of Moti Doongri police station reached the spot.

The hostel inmates warned the cops of `dire consequences' following which the police stormed into the hostel and arrested 33 miscreants and booked them under Section 151of CrPC (Arrest to prevent the commission of cognizable offences).

"We have arrested these miscreants and the matter has been handed over to Adarsh Nagar police where a case would be registered against them, " Yadav told TOI.

The residents in their complaint to police had alleged that these students often misbehave with young couples, girls and even indulge in extortion.
