33 new stations to monitor air quality
Jaipur: The state government is set to inaugurate 33 new Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations (CAAQMS) across the state on World Environment Day (June 5).With this expansion, Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) aims to closely monitor air quality and generate minute-by-minute data on 16 types of air pollutants.Previously, only 10 CAAQMS were operational in eight districts, including three in Jaipur, and one each in Jodhpur, Udaipur, Pali, Bhiwadi, Alwar, Kota, and Ajmer. However, with the addition of these new monitoring stations, all districts will be covered. This comprehensive monitoring will provide the people of Rajasthan with a clear picture of air pollution levels in their respective areas. The newly installed CAAQMS will measure various air pollutants, such as NO, NO2, NOx, NH3, SO2, CO, PM10, PM2.5, Volatile Organic Compounds (including benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, MP xylene, and O xylene), as well as temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, barometric pressure, solar radiation, and rainfall. This detailed data collection will enable authorities to better understand and address the air quality concerns across the state. The World Environment Day will also witness the implementation of the e-waste management policy. The release of the climate change policy, forest policy, and a report on the inventory of plastic waste in Rajasthan will also take place on this occasion. Naveen Mahajan, the chairperson of RSPCB, added that an RSPCB brochure will also be released on the day. Leading up to World Environment Day, the RSPCB has been organizing various programs, including "Hack the Waste," an online ideation hackathon. Under this program, undergraduate and postgraduate students in the fields of technology and engineering, as well as start-ups associated with incubation centers, were invited to participate.
