JAIPUR: After covering MI Road in the first phase, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is all set to install 30 cameras on the Jawahar Lal Nehru (JLN) Marg, putting the road under the area traffic control (ATC) system. After completion of the second phase, it will not be easy for people to get away with flouting traffic rules on this road, one of the most beautiful ones in the city.
Presently, the traffic department has left no stone unturned to ensure that people abide by the lane-system on this six-lane road.
"We have taken up many awareness campaigns, but people are still not following the lane-system on the road," said a traffic official.
"It is good for their own security only as the speed of vehicles on this road is usually higher due to smooth traffic. Besides , the traffic lights are closer to each other on this road compared to other roads in the city, so red-signal jump is also one of the offences people usually don't hesitate much to commit here," he added.
"After completion of the second phase of ATC, cameras will be installed at all the circles, junctions and other important places. It will make easier for us to implement traffic rules on this road strictly ," he further said.
"The project is being taken care of by a Central government agency. Six cameras have already been installed and others will also be in place soon," said Lalit Sharma, JDA's additional chief engineer and in-charge of the project.
On the first phase, JDA spent around Rs 1.50 lakh to install 23 cameras between Khasa Kothi Circle and Transport Nagar. "The second phase covering JLN Marg with 30 cameras will be costlier as the JDA estimates the cost at around Rs 2.15 lakh," said a JDA official.
Presently, more cameras within the stretch of MI Road between Khasa Kothi Cricle and Transport Nagar are being installed.
"We are installing cameras at 5-6 new points within the stretch. The installation will be complete soon after which work on JLN Road will commence," Sharma added.
The cameras at new points on MI Road are being installed due to positive results of already installed 23 cameras.
"The new cameras will enhance the vigil on traffic on this road," said a traffic official.
