JAIPUR: Two policemen were suspended on Saturday after videos surfaced showing them granting unlawful privileges to a murder accused in police custody in Rajasthan's Tonk.
The videos show Shadab Deshwali smoking a cigarette with his associate, Faizal, in the prisoner ward of Saadat Hospital in Tonk. Later, Shadab is seen driving his car back to jail, with the policemen escorting him, sitting beside him, and even patting him on the cheek.
Tonk SP Vikas Sangwan suspended head constable Dashrath Singh and constable Bhanwar Singh and ordered a departmental inquiry.
A police officer said the videos appeared to be from the time Shadab was admitted to the hospital for treatment over three days. The videos were uploaded to social media on Thursday evening.
Shadab had been in jail since Aug 2022 for allegedly shooting a man. Despite his incarceration, Shadab and Faizal had been posting reels on social media. Police are now investigating how Shadab's social media accounts are being managed and tracing the origins of the recently uploaded videos.
