2 held for abducting, robbing man on Ajmer bypass; Rs 1.5 lakh siphoned via UPI

Jaipur: Two men were arrested Friday for allegedly abducting a 30-year-old man on Ajmer Bypass, assaulting him and forcing him to transfer money from his bank accounts in the early hours of April 9, police said.

DCP (west) Prashant Kiran identified the accused as Sanjay (34), a resident of Badhawas village in Jaipur Rural, and Hemant Pathak (23) of Mahapura. The victim, Prabhuram from Dakipura village in Didwana-Kuchaman, approached Karni Vihar police station with a complaint.

According to police, the incident occurred around 1.40am when Prabhuram was waiting for a ride to Beawar near the bypass. He flagged down a car coming from the Delhi Road side, which had a driver and a woman seated in front. “They told him they were going to Beawar, so he got into the back seat. One man was already inside, and another boarded later,” an officer said.

After driving some distance, the accused allegedly overpowered the victim, assaulted him and snatched his mobile phone. He was then forced to disclose his PhonePe password, following which around Rs 1.5 lakh was transferred from his bank accounts. The accused allegedly threatened him during the ordeal, claiming the money was for a “drinks party”. A case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A special police team, led by Additional DCP Rajesh Gupta, ACP Vaishali Nagar Anil Sharma and SHO Karni Vihar Hawa Singh, analysed CCTV footage, tracked digital transactions and used local intelligence to identify the suspects.

Police said Pathak has a prior criminal record in theft and burglary cases. The duo were produced in court and remanded to police custody.
