KOTA: 17 children were rescued at the Kota railway station by anti-human trafficking unit and Child Line, an NGO. A total of 27 children have been rescued so far this month, said Kaneez Fatima, in-charge of anti-human trafficking unit added.
Among those rescued from begging was a five-year-old child who had deep oozing wounds on the forehead after being bitten by stray dogs and another was a 7-year-old child who cuts on the hand after stray dogs attacked him.
The dogs attacked the child when he was scavenging garbage heap for food, she said.
The children were treated and sent to shelter homes. "Most of the children were forced to beg in order to contribute to their parents' drinking habit. I found their mothers in an inebriated condition at the station," said Kaneez Fatima. All the kids were wearing torn and filthy clothes. "We met the parents in some cases and warned them. There is a fine of Rs 20,000 and three-years' imprisonment who force children for such deeds. In fact we have imposed a fine in 29 cases since January 2015," Kaneez Fatima added.
"We also rescued six child labourers from Mahavir Nagar and Katheni Poll areas. The rescued children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) that ordered to send them to different shelter homes in the city," she said.
