106 dengue deaths in Raj in 2 yrs, 446 cases in 2023

JAIPUR: As deaths due to dengue have increased in the state over the past few years, it is crucial that health authorities implement more stringent measures to prevent its spread.
Experts believe that the mutation in strain of dengue virus could be the reason for deaths due to dengue. In 2021, the state had reported 96 deaths which were the highest in the country.In 2022, the health department took preventive measures and deaths were reduced to 10.
Dengue is not only affecting people in monsoon or post monsoon season but also cases are being reported before monsoon. In the state, 446 cases have already been reported in 2023. The health department has attributed it to abrupt changes in weather and untimely rainfall.
In Jaipur, as per the health department, 106 persons have tested positive for dengue from January 1 to May 12 this year. Though the situation is not alarming, the health department is keeping a close eye on the situation.
"We have started preparations for preventing the spread of dengue. Directions have been issued to all districts to prevent breeding of mosquitoes," said Dr Ravi Prakash Sharma, additional director (rural health).
According to the health department, rapid urbanisation, population growth, climate change, socio-economic development and lifestyle changes have led to the introduction of the Aedes vector, which transmits dengue. Officials said that they conduct anti-larvae activities regularly.
